WHAT IS A LICENCE

    • A licence is a written document giving permission to do something) use works) or express written permission of the owner of a right.
    • A performance licence; is issued by the copyright owner in this case MCSK granting the right to transmit the artistic work in public.
    • A synchronization licence: is issued when the copyright owner grants the right to film or televise a company or to connect a song to a visual image.

Mechanical licence: is issued by the copyright owner to a record company granting the right to reproduce or compact disk manufacture and sold

Royalties are therefore moneys received from intellectual property to the copyright owner.

REASONS FOR LICENCING

      • Music is an intellectual property (creation of mind in the from of artistic works)
      • When an individual, group of people or a company wants to use somebody’s property, for commercial purposes then it’s the right of the copyright owner to be paid.
      • The music industry means commerce, which means there is  a basic law of supply and demand. No demand for your music means that its not valuable. It becomes valuable when several users have concluded that its fit for presentation.
